The Matrix<\/a><\/em>\u00a0is being resurrected again.<\/p>\n New reports claim that Warner Bros. is currently in development on a new\u00a0Matrix\u00a0<\/em>movie. This would be the fifth film in the franchise that began in 1999 with Lilly and Lana Wachowski\u2019s<\/a> groundbreaking sci-fi adventure starring Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. After the first movie became a massive hit, the Wachowskis closed out the original trilogy with two more films: 2003\u2019s\u00a0The Matrix Reloaded<\/em> and\u00a0The Matrix Revolutions.<\/em><\/p>\n Some 20 years later, after video games, and some animated material, and a few rumors of new\u00a0Matrix\u00a0<\/em>movies, Lana Wachowski returned to the franchise, along with Reeves and Moss, to make\u00a0The Matrix Resurrections.\u00a0<\/em>Although the film got decent reviews, it was\u00a0not<\/em> a box-office hit, grossing $159.2 million against a reported budget of nearly $200 million. (The film was released simultaneously on streaming and in theaters, which surely didn\u2019t help its ticket sales.)<\/p>\n Despite the lukewarm response to\u00a0The Matrix Resurrections<\/em>, Warners wants another\u00a0Matrix.\u00a0<\/em>According to\u00a0Variety<\/a><\/em>, it will \u201cbe the first installment without Lana or Lily Wachowski as directors. Instead, The Martian<\/em> screenwriter Drew Goddard<\/a> will handle filmmaking duties.\u201d<\/p>\n
