{"id":1805,"date":"2024-09-11T19:32:28","date_gmt":"2024-09-11T19:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hectorkott.com\/?p=1805"},"modified":"2024-09-11T19:32:28","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T19:32:28","slug":"elon-musk-explains-his-80-20-prediction-for-what-ai-means-for-humans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hectorkott.com\/?p=1805","title":{"rendered":"Elon Musk explains his 80\/20 prediction for what AI means for humans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1059\" alt=\"Elon Musk sitting on a couch\" charset=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i.insider.com\/66e1a82283b8099cf9fd7853?format=jpeg\" height=\"569\"><figcaption>Elon Musk said robots will outnumber humans in about 30 years.<\/p>\n<p>All-In Podcast\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>Elon Musk predicted an 80% chance of prosperity and 20% risk of annihilation in the future.<\/li>\n<li>Musk shared his views on the &quot;All In&quot; podcast, highlighting AI&#8217;s potential and risks.<\/li>\n<li>He highlighted Tesla&#8217;s Optimus robot, which he said could eventually perform tasks like babysitting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence could lead to one of two futures, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/elon-musk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elon Musk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, the Tesla CEO appeared on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pSFvOUswFwA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&quot;All In&quot; podcast<\/a> where he spoke about a future of humanoid robots and AI tools that &quot;can do everything we can do, but better.&quot; As AI improves each day, Musk said it&#8217;s more likely to have a positive effect on the world \u2014 but there&#8217;s still a 20% risk of &quot;human annihilation.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The good future of AI is one of immense prosperity where there&#8217;s an age of abundance, no shortage of goods and services, and everyone can have everything they want,&quot; Musk said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that there was about an 80% chance of that future coming to fruition as the tech industry attempts to integrate AI into our daily lives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tesla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesla<\/a> is working on its own humanoid robot called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/elon-musk-hawks-optimus-robot-in-attempt-to-resuscitate-tesla-2024-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Optimus<\/a>, which is still in development. Musk said he believes these &quot;general purpose&quot; robots will one day be capable of landscaping, babysitting, or walking your dog for you and cost around $20,000.<\/p>\n<p>In a world where any number of robots can do the jobs humans don&#8217;t want to, &quot;there&#8217;s no actual limit to the size of the economy,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, Musk predicted that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/waymo-robotaxis-waking-neighbors-nightly-honking-2024-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">autonomous cars<\/a> and helpful robots have a 20% chance of causing a &quot;crisis of meaning&quot; as they perform menial tasks faster and better than humans.<\/p>\n<p>Although he joked about humanity&#8217;s annihilation, Musk said the bigger challenge of AI is people not knowing what to do with themselves anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Whether they decide to conquer the world or help humans, Musk predicted that the number of robots would &quot;vastly exceed the number of humans&quot; in 30 years&#8217; time.
