No parent knows what they’re going to get when they open up their kid\u2019s<\/u><\/a> school<\/u><\/a> pictures<\/u><\/a>. Even if they\u2019ve practiced their smile a million times that morning, something could (and let\u2019s face it, probably will) go awry. <\/p>\n

But more often than not, these bouts of chaos make for a delightfully entertainment parenting monet. <\/p>\n

Just take Vially Dorestant\u2019s word for it. <\/p>\n

In a clip posted to her Instagram<\/u><\/a>, Dorestant is seen trying to prep her son Corey for his big picture day happening at preschool the following week. <\/p>\n

\u201cAre you gonna smile?\u201d she prompts. Corey replies, \u201cyes!\u201d He even shows off an adorable grin. <\/p>\n

Dorestant tries to confirm, \u201cThat\u2019s how you\u2019re gonna smile?\u201d Corey, with the same smile, says \u201cyes!\u201d<\/p>\n

Because of the magic rule of threes, mom really tries to clench the deal by asking a third time, saying \u201cwhen they say \u2018cheese\u2019 what are you gonna do?\u201d<\/p>\n

Corey demonstrates an impressive \u201ccheeeeeese\u201d with a classic tooth-showing smile. So of course Dorestant can feel safe knowing that that\u2019s exactly how he\u2019s gonna do it for picture day. <\/p>\n

Spoiler alert: that is NOT how he did it for picture day. But arguably\u2026he did something way<\/em><\/em> better. <\/p>\n

Um, okay. The pure, unadulterated swagger of this kid. Eyes squinted, one hand in his pocket, the other holding his chin, posed more like he\u2019s coming out with a new hip-hop album than a school portrait. So cool, and so unexpected.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing could\u2019ve prepared me for the ending \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02,\u201d one viewer wrote<\/p>\n

Another surmised that \u201cDad must have gave him a different prep talk \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\u201d<\/p>\n

The greatest part of this story is that Dorestant mainly wanted to practice Corey\u2019s smiling with nhim because she was concerned he would be shy on the day. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe tends to get shy and freeze up around others,\u201d she told Newsweek. \u201cSince this was his first picture day at a new school, I wanted to ensure he felt comfortable and confident.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Corey\u2019s amazing bait and switch became a heart warming lesson. <\/p>\n

"As parents, we often feel the need to shield our kids and prepare them for the world, which can make us anxious about their readiness, but we need to trust in their abilities and give them the space to shine on their own.\u201d <\/p>\n

Indeed, kids can teach us things too. <\/p>\n
