A new remake of the cult mockumentary <\/span>The Office<\/i><\/b> where characters\u2019 genders were seemingly \u201cswapped\u201d caused <\/span>outrage<\/b> on social media. The original The<\/em> O<\/span>ffice<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>UK<\/span><\/a>) featured <\/span>Ricky Gervais<\/b>\u2019 David Brent, the US version had <\/span>Steve Carell<\/b>\u2019s Michael Scott. But now, <\/span>The Office<\/span><\/i> Australia has introduced Hannah Howard, portrayed by <\/span>Felicity Ward<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking to its official <\/span>YouTube page<\/span><\/a> on Tuesday (September 17), Prime Video AU & NZ dropped the trailer of the latest version of <\/span>The Offic<\/span><\/i>e, announcing: \u201cNew Office. New Aussie Boss.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The trailer, which has amassed over 653,000 views, opens with new lead character Hannah Howard. She visibly manages the fictional <\/span>Sydney<\/span><\/a> packaging company, Flinley Craddick.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the original British sitcom, David Brent manages Wernham Hogg, a fictional paper merchant located in the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another remake of the cult mockumentary The Office<\/i> caused outrage on social media<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In <\/span>The Office<\/span><\/i><\/a> US, Michael Scott is the boss for Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new trailer sees quirky boss Hannah telling her employees that she has some good news to share, \u201cAs of today, we are back in the office full time,\u201d referencing the post-Covid-19 end of lockdown restrictions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hannah is subsequently met with grumpy colleagues and awkward close ups. Later in the trailer, the Aussie can be seen celebrating the Melbourne Cup with the office in dazzling attire and oversized hats with feathered fascinators \u2013 a classic nod to Australian culture, according to <\/span>Sky News Australia<\/span><\/i><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new trailer goes on to touch on <\/span>gender bias<\/span><\/a> in the workplace, as Hannah announces: \u201cPromoting women into positions of power \u2014 that\u2019s my mantra, really. My back hurts from carrying all my sisters all the time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

While the original The <\/em><\/span>Office<\/span><\/i> had Mackenzie Crook\u2019s Gareth Keenan, and <\/span>The Office<\/span><\/i> US featured Rainn Wilson\u2019s Dwight Schrute, the Aussie version introduced Lizzie, played by Edith Poor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, the popular TV show\u2019s changes were met with significant backlash, as <\/span>The Office<\/span><\/i> fans were quick to flock to the comments to air their grievances.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this new version, the characters\u2019 genders were seemingly \u201cswapped\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n
